It was still the same day. Dragon Father had disappeared early into his waking world. Mary and Dragon Little had begun to talk about dreams. Mary shared her dreams and nightmares and Dragon Little shared her belief that she did not dream or have nightmares.

Mary had tucked Dragon Little in again, and 2-year-old Dragon Little was lying down, facing the wall and the window.

Mary closed the curtain. “Good night, lass,” she said and my sharp dragon ears heard her walking towards the cabin door.

“Does Dad dream, Mary?”

It was the very next day after 2-year-old Dragon Little couldn’t sleep because of a monster under her bed.

The next day’s adventure was cut short again, as Dragon Father disappeared early in the adventure, and all the villains did as well. Dragon Little had nothing else to do but to return to Bonny’s Revenge and play with Mary until she was tried.

Mary tucked Dragon Little in.

But it seemed that Dragon Little remembered what Mary had said the previous night.

“Mary, what’s a dream?”

I have never heard a laugh like Dragon Little’s.

Dragon Little’s laugh rolls and rolls. It is as if the entire world is funny. It is as if whatever made her laugh is the funniest thing in the world.

Every time she laughs, her father laughs, too. Her laughter is catchy.

Her laughter makes even me want to laugh, even though she is a human and I am a dragon.

Bonny’s Revenge hung above the forest in the giant’s world. Dragon Father, now visibly panicked, was looking over the wooden railing and calling, “Joy! Joy!” at the forest.

Not only did he not know where she was, he did not know if she was alive or dead.

He ran from side to side futilely, until he spotted Ymir the Giant, who had swatted them in the first place.

Dragon Father’s face twisted.

“Go away!” he said.

Ymir the Giant disappeared.

Dragon Little, now only four years old, stood up and faced him. Then she twirled around as fast as she could and looked at her father.

She smiled. He smiled back.

“Now do that three, four, five times, as much as you can! And then try to keep standing straight!”

Dragon Little shrugged.

She spun around herself once, twice, three times… and at number six, she stopped, and immediately fell sideways on the metal prison floor.

I swooped down on Bonny’s Revenge, my wings spread wide and coasting on the wind that ist only there when Dragon Father ist in the Dream.

It had been a while since I had flown, and it has been less than a year since I had been freed by Dragon Father and Dragon Little and could fly on my own.

We were not yet good friends, back when Dragon Little was only 3 years old, but I loved her deeply, and in my heart I called her ‘Dragon Little’ instead of Joy Shelley.

My heart leapt at coming out of my hiding place, at meeting Dragon Little and talking to her. I could not wait to ride together when she was older.

Dragon Father and Dragon Little were pinned down behind a huge rock on the planet of the Laser Pirates of Chinchilla. The pirates were firing lasers from atop the castle they had overtaken, and Dragon Little and Dragon had nothing to do but cower down behind the rock. They had nowhere to go.

“Dad,” my sweet Dragon Little said. “You can’t be hurt by lasers! Get up and storm them!”
