I dock Bonny’s Revenge right next to one of the suns, with the plank as close as I could get it. I’m not doing this as good as Justin or Joy or Master Mind. But it’s close enough. Suzy and I both put on one of the jetpacks that Joy had made permanent. Just in case one of us falls here or outside the Shroom.

Suzy’s first on the plank, and the plank begins to wobble as soon as she’s on it.

“Oh, no, no, no!” she says and comes back. “I’m not doing this!”

Justin is in a terrible mood the second we get out of the dream with the mecha suits battle.

“Dad, let’s try that dream!” Joy points to a Shroom to her immediate left.

Justin’s lips are closed tight, and he shakes his head. “We’re going home,” he manages to say.

I have only seen him this angry when he was a kid, and during those times he wouldn’t say more than a few syllables in hours.

Joy tries to argue, but Justin ignores her. “Master Mind, Dad, let’s go!” He activates his jetpack and flies off the Shroom.

Master Mind looks at Joy, who is miffed at being ignored. Then he follows Justin upwa

With Justin and Charlie both awake and gone from the dream, it’s time for Master Mind and Joy to do their special delivery to Charlie’s dream. As always, I join them. Just in case something happens. Just in case something should be reported back to Justin.

Joy has gathered on the deck of Bonny’s Revenge ten permanent jetpacks that Charlie has left in Justin’s dream, having used them to come over. Once he’s here, he wakes up from here and the jetpack gets left behind.

So, once a week, Joy and Master Mind bring them back.

Justin goes first. Joy follows him, holding Charlie’s hand. I try to cross, but as soon as the plank wobbles, my legs shake and I almost lose my balance. Master Mind grabs me, then just jumps into the tunnel.

As the group continues to Joy’s first authorized ‘outing’ into other people’s dreams, I look back through the tunnel at Suzy, standing on Bonnie’s Revenge’s deck.

She waves at me.

I know that face. She’s afraid for us, she’s afraid one of us isn’t going to make it, and she’s trying to hide it.

I want to tell her we’ll be fine. But right now my heart’s beating fast, and I’m not as brave as I thought I would be.

“Dad! I’ve been on adventure a million times!”

We are all standing on the deck of Bonny’s Revenge and everyone’s excited.

“Last time you went to other dreams, I almost lost you forever,” Justin tells Joy. “And the dreams I went to, some of them you would never have survived. So: Let’s go through our checklist. Does everyone have jetpacks?”

“Let’s see, let’s see, let’s see…” Dragon Father drawled slowly.

They were still sitting on the plank as Bonny’s Revenge rested calmly on the waveless ocean. Bother of them were looking out. Dragon Little was sitting between Dragon Father’s legs, on the edge of the plank.

Both seemed happy to sit there and let Dragon Father find nicknames for Dragon Little. He had just realized he had never given her one, and for a reason that seemed to come from his waking world, he thought it was important to give her one.

“Let’s see… I can’t find a shorter version of ‘Joy’, so… What do people call Joys?”

She hopped off the ship, went to the edge of the cloud, and peered down without fear.

It was quite a distance downwards.

She then took off her pants and panties, crouched down, and peed into the air.

She stood up, put her pants and panties back on, and looked down at the water falling.

Then she smiled.

I have seen that mischievous smile many times before.

When Dragon Little was only three and a half years old, one day Dragon Father’s dream brought the two of them to the peak of the Himalaya Mountains, in search of the Golden Key.

The top of the mountain was small and there was almost no room to stand. Snow was everywhere on the ground, and now it had begun to fall as well.

At the peak, a long plank had been embedded into the rock, stretching out five meters away above a sheer drop. At its very edge, the Golden Key lay inside a hook.

“Okay,” Dragon Father took off the bag on his back and started looking inside it. “I’m going to search my bag for a long rope. I think I brought one…” he raised his eyes for a second, and his breath stopped.

Dragon Little was already on the plank, which was slightly more narrow than her small legs. She had already taken a few steps.

Joy woke up when an evil Red Pirate crashed through the door to the door of her cabin and hit the other side of the cabin with force.

She turned in her bed, and opened her eyes.

The Red Pirate ignored her and rushed back out.

There was noise of fighting outside.

She sighed and sat up.

It was a long day. Dragon Little and Dragon Father fought the army of killer Martians throughout the entire day. There was sword-fighting, running in corridors, jumping over roofs, a chase down a steep hill, jumping from spaceship to spaceship and back again.

They were victorious and the evil Martian dictator was defeated, arrested, and escorted by Dragon Little to his new cell in the Infinite Prison at the bottom of Bonny’s Revenge
