All in Told by The Red Dragon

Dragon Little and Dragon Father were of course in the middle of an adventure, and they had the King Dad on the run.

They entered a huge room that had royal cots for a hundred different babies, when Dragon Father stopped the chase.

“Dad, Dad—” Dragon Little ran past him.

She reached the exit to the room, when she saw he was not continuing the chase. “What’s wrong?”

My Dragon Little was four and a few months old, when her father helped tuck her in. It was the first time in a month or so that he had been able to do so. Over the last month, he had been appearing much later in the day and disappearing in the middle of an adventure almost every day.

But this time the adventure had ended, the villain had been led to the Infinite Prison in the belly of Bonny’s Revenge, and Dragon Father had time to help Dragon Little go to bed.

“Dad, tell me about the time I peed on the Fairy Forest King.”

He appeared in the middle of the deck on Bonny’s Revenge, as always in exactly the same spot. She had been ready and waiting for him for almost two hours.

The second he appeared, she started jumping up and down: “You gotta watch this, Dad! You gotta watch this!”

This was done so fast following his appearance, that he shook his head, trying to concentrate on what is happening. As a result, the night sky, the cities in the clouds, and even the winds appeared, then disappeared, then appeared again. It ist the world he creates every time he appears, no doubt without his knowledge.

Dragon Little had been climbing the mast by herself since she was two and a half years old. She would love to climb all the way up and sit in the wooden crow’s nest.

During the long hours of Dragon Father’s absence, when he was awake (although she did not know that), she spent quite a few hours sitting in the crow’s nest.

Sometimes she would fall asleep there, and Dragon Father would reappear and look for her. Only his shouting her name strongly would wake her up.

Dragon Father picked up 2-year-old Dragon Little. Her legs and feet were so small, then. She was such a tiny human. And she was no doubt light. When she had ridden me, on my dragon body that ist as big as her pirate ship, I did not even feel her. Not the way I would in later years.

Joy woke up when an evil Red Pirate crashed through the door to the door of her cabin and hit the other side of the cabin with force.

She turned in her bed, and opened her eyes.

The Red Pirate ignored her and rushed back out.

There was noise of fighting outside.

She sighed and sat up.

The evil king was defeated and handcuffed, waiting to be led by Dragon Little and Dragon Father into the Infinite Prison in the belly of Bonny’s Revenge

But Dragon Father was in no hurry to go back to the ship.

He walked around the big room and then sat down on the king’s throne, one leg over the side.

“This is nice,” he said. “Want to try it?”

“Get out of the car, Joy,” he turned his attention to the car.

The new car was standing there with its roof torn apart, its sides and front banged up, and Dragon Little was standing on the front seat, leaning out from the torn roof.

“Why?” she started. But when she looked at his face, she jumped out and joined him. “What’s wrong, Dad?”

“Dad! The monster is gaining on us!”

It was Dragon Father now driving the car Dragon Little had stolen. Its roof was wrecked and its speed was not at all what they were used to, flying in spaceships and pirate ships.

Dragon Little rose to stand and look at the dinosaur-like monster through the roof. “Give me a gun!” She offered her hand without looking at him.

“We’re here to buy a car,” Dragon Father said.

“But… why?” She pulled on his sleeve again. “We have a ship!” She pointed to Bonny’s Revenge floating above the dealership, its anchor tethered to the rock behind the building.

Dragon Father and Dragon Little sailed the ocean of the hawk people after a victorious adventure.

Instead of flying home, they stopped to look at the suns begin to set. On their own ocean the suns never set.

“It’s beautiful, isn’t it?” Dragon Father held little Dragon Little on his arms as they looked at the pink and orange hues of the sky.

I do not often tell you about the adventures of Dragon Little and Dragon Father. They have had adventures almost every day I had known them. But these adventures are not real - they are Dragon Father’s dreams. He does not know it, but he controls the villains, the outcomes, the risk, and their success.

So the risk ist never real. The adventure ist never true. Except when Dragon Little ist left behind to deal with the few villains who are left when Dragon Father awakes. But even then she ist somewhat protected.

Ten Martian Ice Pirates ships sped towards Bonny’s Revenge. Dragon Little, only four and a half years old, was on it, her father having awoken just seconds ago, leaving his daughter to fend for herself alone in the Dream.

Dragon Little did not seem overly worried, and helmed the ship particularly slow, allowing the pirates to catch up.
