Master Mind takes two steps forward, grabs Joy around the torso, and steps back.
“Hey!” Joy says.
Amahle’s spooky music rises.
“Guys, guys, there’s no need for panic,” Justin raises his hands. “This mummy is not going to move!”
“Son,” I say. “There are six Dreamers here and one mummy. One of you is going to move the mummy and make it dangerous.”
“It’s my dream, my mummy! No one can move it but me, and I’m saying it’s a dead mummy. This isn’t an adventure. I just need to move it to the British Museum!”
“Rrrrrrrrr,” the mummy mumbles, as it rises to sit up. Sand falls from its body. Suzy gasps. Master Mind, holding Joy, takes a step back. As do I.
“Who’s doing that?” Justin says. He raises his hand and the mummy lies back down. “This is just an artifact!”
“Rrrrrrr…” the mummy rumbles.
“Oooh, I’m sorry. I think that was me,” Charlie says. “Sorry.” The mummy collapses.
Suddenly a whirl of dust comes out of the mummy.
“No!” Justin raises both hands. The sand falls to the ground.
“Pirate Mother, Pirate Father,” Master Mind turns around and looks at us. “We are leaving for the tunnels.”
You don’t need to tell me twice. Suzy grabs my hand and we follow Master Mind as fast as we can out to the porch, to our lawn, and up the ramp to Bonny’s Revenge.
“Let me go!” Joy says. “I got it! I got it! I promise!”
Master Mind releases Joy and Joy runs to the helm of the ship.
She brings us up to the sun, and with practiced accuracy she brings the plank right to the edge of the tunnel. Joy leaps on to the plank, then into the tunnel. Master Mind takes me in one hand and Suzy in another. As he walks the plank, we look down.
All the windows in our home explode.
Suzy sighs. “Not again.”
