“When I woke up, I forgot the dream, just like always.” Amahle tells us, all excited.
That day in which Amahle disappeared from Justin’s dream in mid-dream while talking to Suzy and me had passed, And another night had passed, and we have not seen Amahle. Now, just as we were about to embark on an adventure with Charlie and Justin on Mars, Justin decided to check if Amahle was waiting for us on the top of her Shroom.
He docked the ship right outside one of the suns, and Master Mind went to check, quickly returning with Amahle.
“But even though I forgot my dream, my heart was pumping! I felt I had a great inspiration! There was music inside me. And I was certain I could feel what the color blue was, even though I knew I’d never seen it.”
“What?” Justin says. “Really?”
“You could see blue in the waking world?” Charlie asks, just as surprised.
“I couldn’t. I couldn’t see anything. But I somehow felt I did know somehow what blue was. And I sat down, and words came out of me. Words that mean ‘blue’ to me. And with them came music. I sat down and wrote and composed a whole song in three hours about a color I’d never seen!”
“Wow!”
“I played it to Sandile, and it was beautiful. He was so touched!”
Sandile is her boyfriend in the waking world, I know that much. And I know that he’s sighted.
“And then I just sat down for three more hours and another song came out of me, called ‘Red’. It’s all about what I imagine the color red to be, what emotions I feel it has, and the music is so amazing.”
“Amahle, I’ve never heard of anything like it!” Justin says.
Out of the corner of my eye, I see that Joy has tightened her lips, and her fingers have closed into fists.
“I have been awake for another night, writing two more songs! ‘Yellow’ and ‘Green’. Now I know where it comes from, but in the real world, it felt like something heavenly landed on me. It was better than anything I had ever done and it was about something I’d never experienced. But it was so poetic. And Sandile says it’s so accurate!”
Joy turns around and walks to the helm.
“That’s amazing!” Justin says, following Joy with his eyes. “Just one thing: Let’s call it ‘the waking world’, not ‘the real world’. This world is just as real.”
“Right. Of course.”
Charlie joins Joy at the helm. But it doesn’t seem that Amahle’s agreement to not use the phrase ‘the real world’ has made Joy feel better. Joy begins to fly the ship.
“It’s amazing, Amahle! I can’t believe it!”
“When I’m awake, it’s such a mystery! It’s so amazing! But now I know I have Joy to thank for it! Joy, thank you so much!”
Bonny’s Revenge hangs just above Suzy’s and my home.
Joy turns around and says fiercely, “Everyone get off my ship!”
