Justin stands behind Joy, as close as he can, his arms forward, fists closed in anticipation. Charlie stands next to Joy, holding her left hand. Amahle stands to Joy’s right, ready for my granddaughter to take her hand.
After the fiasco with Amahle dragging Joy into the ocean while trying to feel the color blue, and after the fiasco with a giant waterfall appearing above the two of them when Amahle tried to feel the color white, completely drenching them, Justin was no longer willing to take risks. He and Charlie are there to ward off any dangers while at the same time allowing Amahle to feel her way through colors that she somehow miraculously feels when Joy holds her hand.
We are on an island Justin created for this purpose, in the middle of the ocean in his dream. Bonny’s Revenge is docked to the side. Master Mind remains on the deck. He is always ready to leap into action, but with two dreamers protecting Joy, there’s probably not going to be a need. Quite possibly, it’s more likely he’ll protect Suzy and me. We stand right next to him, just in case.
“Ready,” Amahle says.
“Ready,” Justin says, fists tightening.
“Ready,” Charlie says, starting to nervously move from side to side.
“Ready,” Joy says.
Joy grabs Amahle’s hand.
“What is pink?” Amahle says, trying no doubt to imagine something pink.
Suddenly, she gasps. “So smooth!”
Pink styrofoam snow falls from the sky.
“What is that?” Joy looks up, blinking.
“Ooooh, so smooooth!” Amahle says.
And suddenly there is an avalanche of this pink snow falling on the island, burying everyone.
“Ahhhh!” I hear Charlie scream.
“I got her covered in a bubble of air!” I hear Justin.
They are all literally buried under a mountain of this.
“So smooooooooth!” I hear Amahle. “I’m swimming in it!”
The avalanche picks up and the mountain of pink styrofoam now reaches the deck of Bonny's Revenge, beginning to slip in.
“Emergency! Emergency!” Master Mind shoves Suzy and me in the direction of Joy’s cabin. “Into the Little Pirate’s cabin! And close the door!”
Suzy and I walk hurriedly towards the cabin. Meanwhile, I hear Joy say “What is that? Are those fairy eggs?”
“I’m swimming in it!” I hear Amahle shout.
We get in and close the door. Suzy looks at me and shakes her head. This is crazy!
