‘The Squashbuckler Diaries’ are the daily tales of Joy Shelley’s Life in the Dream. The ‘Lost in Dreams’ books will tell the story of what happens to her at ages 6, 9, 12, 15, and so on. The diaries tell us what happens before, after, and between the books.

S02E109 Reaching Outside the Dream, Part 8, Toronto Ahoy

We approach a brown and blue planet. Looking over the railing of this flying wooden warship that Justin calls Bonny’s Revenge, I see only one landmass.

“Toronto ahoy!” Joy yells from the crow’s nest.

“Toronto ahoy!” Justin echoes from the wheel.

“Grandma, Grampa,” Joy yells at Suzy and me from above. “You say it, too!”

I look at Suzy, and she seems to be feeling awkward like me.

“Toronto ahoy,” Suzy says weakly.

“Toronto ahoy,” I say under my breath.

“You’re the parents of a pirate extraordinaire!” Justin shouts from the wheel. “Put some oomph in it!”

“And you’re the grandparents of a pirate extraordinaire, too!” Joy yells from above.

“Exactly. Come on!” Justin urges us with a smile.

“Toronto ahoy!” I raise my voice.

“Toronto ahoy!” Suzy really shouts.

Justin laughs. “Perfect!”

“Now you, Master Mind!” Joy shouts at the killer robot from above. “Put some oomph in it!”

“Toronto ahoy!” Master Mind uses a voice so loud it is no doubt heard on the other side of the planet.

We all cover our ears instinctively. Then, as Master Mind’s voice dies down, everyone stares at him.

A few seconds pass, and then Joy shouts from above, “Good going, Master Mind!”

“Entering the atmosphere!” Justin turns the wheel and we dive into, apparently, planet Toronto.
