#226: As Tall as the Sky

Dragon Father stood on the deck of Bonny’s Revenge and suddenly stared at Dragon Little, now aged five and a half.

“Oh my god, look how much you’re growing! Come here!”

Dragon Little ran to Dragon Father and stood upright in front of him.

He measured her, running his hand from the top of her head to his body.

“You’re right under my chest. Look here.”

“Last time I was here!” She pointed to a spot a few millimeters underneath.

“You’re growing up so much, you’re going to be taller than me one day.”

“I’m going to be as tall as the sky?”

“I… yeah…” he laughed. “You’re going to be as high as the sky!”

“I’m going to be as tall as you?”

“Yeah.”

“Promise?”

“Well… You never really know. Probably.”

Dragon Little’s face suddenly changed to frustration and anger.

Dragon Father spotted the change and his head shot back, perhaps preparing for whatever was to come next.

Dragon Little’ expression changed to determination. “You’re wrong. I will be taller than you!”

“You never really know until--”

“I will be taller than you!”

“Joy…”

“I will! I promise!”

Dragon Father nodded, giving up. “Absolutely. I know you will.”

“I will!” she did not seem to have been convinced by him.

“You will.”

“I will.”

“Yes.”

“You promise?”

“I promise. You’ll be taller than me.”

“Okay.” She nodded to herself and walked away.
