Master Mind reaches the top first. Then Joy, then Justin.

They reach the top and disappear from view into the wormhole-like tear in the sky.

The big leaf holding Suzy, Charlie and I accelerates as we approach the top, and we are right behind them.

“Joy the Pirate!” I hear a female voice boom as everything changes around me and I find myself in a hall with a checkered floor, one that looks like it had been taken out of a chess board. “I have missed you!”

At my helpless shouts for help, Justin comes running out of the house.

“Oh my god!” he stops in the pathway leading up to Bonny’s Revenge as soon as he sees Joy and the kids looking at weapons in the weapons cabinet. “Joy! No weapons! No one touch the weapons!”

Angela comes out running.

“Justin, what’s–Holy shit! Dad, Mom, there’s a huge ship parked outside your house!”

“What the fuck is going on!” Angela demands from Justin.

“Angela, Angela, calm down,” I tell her.

“Dad, shut up!” Angela shouts at me. “Justin, your daughter stabbed Ethan! He turned to dust like a vampire! You high fived her! Justin!”

Justin is thinking. So much has happened.

“Your husband is a killer!” Joy shouts at Angela. Joy doesn’t need time to think. “I killed him like he deserved!”

I am so staggered by the fact that Joy, my granddaughter, just stabbed my son-in-law in the heart that I can hardly think.

Tommy is screaming. Grace is crying. Angela keeps whispering, “Holy shit, holy shit, holy shit.” And I can’t see any of the rest, since my eyes are blurry.

“Joy-what-Joy-what-Joy-what–” Justin is saying.

I try to look at Joy with the long kitchen knife, the murder weapon, as she stands there in the door to our home, framed in that door.

“This is exciting!” Suzy says, as excited as I’ve seen her since we met Joy six months ago. “I’m so excited! Walt, aren’t you excited?”

We’re all standing in the living room in Suzy’s and my home: Suzy, me, Joy, Justin, and Charlie. Master Mind is waiting outside on the deck of Bonny’s Revenge, docked just a few meters away.

“Very excited.”

“Right,” Justin claps his hands once. “We’re going to do this the way we do it in the real…I mean, in the waking world.”

Justin is armed to the teeth with two laser pistols, one on each side of his belt, and General Hawk’s Falcon on his back. Master Mind prepares by having two cannons come out of his exoskeleton, a different one out of each hand. Joy arms herself with a sword and a laser pistol.

Charlie and I remain unarmed.

Justin takes us to the moon.

“Master Mind!” Joy calls out, halfway through her ‘Noooo!’

Master Mind drops me quickly but softly to the Shroom and activates his jetpack. Looking around, I see he is the only one with the jetpack. Madelyn’s, Charlie’s, and Justin’s jetpacks are all in the tunnel. And mine, too.

Master Mind is in the air above us, about to zoom down, when he stops. “I fear it is too late!”

Joy stands on the edge and leans to look down. So do the other kids.

“My evil side plots your death at my hands,” he tells her. “But only 1.5% more than usual.”

“Master Mind,” Joy says from the hammock. “Why are your hands there?”

He takes his hands out of his chest cavity. “I have protected your paper heart from getting wet. I was afraid the water would damage my only prized possession.”

Joy helms Bonny’s Revenge.

We sail past the moon, which Joy and Charlie visited only a couple of months ago. We sail past Mars, zoom past the asteroid belt and the solar system.

Joy doesn’t even look aside, checking for a facility that can hold a dragon.

“Joy, you just skipped over a lot of planets,” Suzy tells her.

“She’s not there,” Joy says confidently without looking at Suzy.

Bonny’s Revenge flies faster, until we reach a planet made of metal.

Suddenly a spark in the circuits on Captain Widget’s face made him jump backwards.

Another spark appeared on his face.

“What’s happening?” he hit his face, trying to put the small fire out. “Oh! My tears! My tears are shorting out my tech! There’s no time! I have only a few seconds before the tech is wasted!”

Dragon Little came out of her cabin, looked at the ocean around her, turned and entered the door next to her cabin, the one leading down to Infinite Prison at the belly of Bonny’s Revenge

I heard her shout, not scream. I cannot see from my hiding place into the Infinite Prison, but I knew what she saw, for I had heard what had come before, and I heard his gurgling.

Inside his locked cell, the Evil Fairy Forest King lay on his back, a big, burnt feather stuck deep into his neck. He was still moving, gurgling, and barely breathing.

“Shush! Shush!” Dragon Little waved him away. Then, suddenly, she turned to face him. “Yes! I’l make a wish!”

“Three wishes?” The genie begged hopefully.

“Three wishes. Then what happens?”

“Then I’ll be free. I’ll be released. I’ll be back to my real life before I was cursed with being a genie in a lamp.”

Dragon Little nodded.

“Ready?”

He tensed his body.
