#306: The Girl Who Never Saw Night, Part 2

“Are you sure you’ve never seen a night?”

Dragon Father and Dragon Daughter were on their way towards their unfortunate adventure on The Night Planet to catch the Wicked Wizard. But during their flight, as he helmed Bonny’s Revenge, Dragon Father found it hard to believe that Dragon Little had never even experienced a night.

Dragon Little said, complaining, “I already told you.”

“When you go to sleep…” he tried to think. “The suns are still there,” he pointed up. “Yeah. And they never set. Yeah.”

Dragon Little found this exasperating. She went to the mast and began to climb it.

“What about space!” Dragon Father yelled after her.

“What about space?” she yelled back impatiently.

Dragon Father looked up. The two suns were still there above him, as he was sailing through space.

I have never actually seen outer space until Dragon Father’s dream, so I do not know what it ist really like or if it has night or not. But I do know that in his dream, no matter where they went, the suns were always above them.

“So… at no time… in almost six years… have you seen a night?” he mumbled to himself. “That can’t be healthy. That can’t be good.”

“Night ahoy!” Dragon Little yelled from the crow’s nest.

Dragon Father looked at the planet ahead. It was a regular-looking planet, except that above it was another huge planet. The huge planet blocked the sunlight and created a shadow big enough so that no spot in the Night Planet had sunlight.

Dragon Father brought Bonny’s Revenge to a dead stop in space. He looked at Dragon Little, then the Night Planet, then Dragon Little again.

“I think maybe this is not a good idea now,” he whispered.

Tomorrow I will tell you what he did to protect Dragon Little.
