Dragon Little had been waiting to see the Tooth Fairy for months, ever since her father told her about what would happen when her first tooth fell.
Now, after her tooth fell due to her jumping in front of a witch’s flying broom, Dragon Father took Bonny’s Revenge to Tooth Island.
Tooth Island had not been there, on Earth’s ocean, until Bonny’s Revenge reached it. It was summoned by the dreamer without his knowledge.
They parked Bonny’s Revenge at the edge of the small, barren island.
“Why is this called Tooth Island?” Dragon Little looked around. “There’s nothing here.”
“Do you have your tooth?”
She showed it to him.
“Dig a small hole and bury it.”
Dragon Little was on her knees, and started to work.
As she did so, Dragon Father said, “There is magic to Tooth Island. Old, ancient magic. Rumor has it that in a fight between a great toothless giant and the greatest fairy of all times, both died here, casting the greatest spell that ever was.”
Dragon Little looked up at him even as she was digging, her mouth hanging open, her eyes open wide.
This was not a fairy tale told to a child. Dragon Father was weaving her reality. Dragon Little lived in a world where fairies, giants, magical creatures and supervillains all lived. Her father was creating a reality that she would soon be a part of. She listened to it with passion as she dug with passion.
“The spell,” Dragon Father continued, “creates a magical bridge to a land we’ve never been to: A bridge to the Kingdom of the Tooth Fairies. Only a tooth buried in the sand can create that bridge. But that bridge only lasts a few minutes and then it disappears forever. If we take it, we cannot return from it. If we take it, we may never come back.”
Dragon Little put the tooth in the small hole and covered it.
She was back on her feet next to him. “Are you ready for that, Joy?” he asked her, putting his hand around her shoulders.
She nodded, her eyes shining. “Ready!”
“All right, then. Let’s wait for the Tooth Tree.”
Tomorrow I will tell you of the Tooth Tree and the next step in their adventure.
