#258: To the Rescue!

Dragon Little was almost six years old when Dragon Father was captured by the evil Big Bad Wolf and his lackeys.

Dragon Little and Dragon Father had separated in an attempt to slip past the Big Bad Wolf’s defenses in the forests and steal back the Ball of Light that he had stolen from Princess Red Riding Hood.

The Big Bad Wolf tied up Dragon Father and threw him in a ‘cell’ made out of powerful, long tree branches. The cell was hanging from the top of a tree just above the Big Bad Wolf’s camp.

I suspect that Dragon Father did not put up too big of a fight because his subconscious expected his daughter to come and save him.

Which she did. But I’m sure that what happened next ist not what he expected.

“Pssst! Dad!”

Dragon Father looked up.

Dragon Little had snuck into the camp and was on the treetop just above him.

“Joy!” he let out a small laugh of relief. “You did it! Come on, get me out!”

“Juuuuuuust one minute,” she whispered. “Before I rescue you… What is it we do?”

“Huh?”

“What do we do?”

“What are you talking about?”

“What is it called? This?” she mimed fighting with her sword.

Dragon Father’s demeanor changed and tightened up. “You’re kidding me. I’m not doing this. Get me out.”

Far above from my vantage point, my sharp dragon eyes could see through the leaves that she was shaking her head.

“Joy! I’m not going to say it!” he whispered angrily.

“Sayyyy it,” she whispered.

Ahh. And now I understood what they were talking about.

“No!” he whispered. “Stop acting like a child and rescue your father!”

“Sure. Just say ‘squashbuckler’.” She was clearly enjoying herself.

“Joy….! I’m going to count to three!”

“Better count to squashbuckler… Cuz that’s when I’m going to rescue you.”

“It’s swashbuckler! Swashbuckler! Swashbuckler! That’s how you say it! We’re swashbucklers!”

She shrugged and, legs hugging a branch, leaned back on the trunk. “I got alllll day,” she said.

Dragon Father growled. But he sat down in his cage as well. “I got alllll day, too!” he said.

And so they sat.

Tomorrow I will tell you how this situation was resolved.
