#223: Compromise
Dragon Father was exhausted by the end of the second day.
It had all started innocently when Dragon Little showed him her shirt was too big, and then deteriorated when she wanted to wear only what the captain of the Blue Pirates was wearing. Dragon Little, as usual, seemed capable of insisting endlessly and would not wear anything Dragon Father provided.
This second day was spent mostly by Dragon Little throwing anything Dragon Father gave her into the ocean.
After a few hours, Dragon Father exploded in anger, threatened her that she would never have anything to wear, then apologized for having raised his voice.
Dragon Little did not waiver at any point. She curled into herself when he yelled, but she would not waiver.
Then Dragon Father spent an hour pacing back and forth on the deck of Bonny’s Revenge.
Finally, as time wore on, Dragon Father returned to face Dragon Little, who was sitting on the plank, a leg on each side.
“Okay!” he shouted at her. “The only way you get to wear his clothes - the only way! - is if I wear them too!”
“Okay!” She nodded quickly, a smile on her face.
He continued as if he hadn’t heard her, “If we both wear them, then you’re not dressed like a villain. Got it!”
She nodded quickly many times.
“Good! Then he’s dressed like us and we’re not dressed like him, right?”
“Right!” She nodded again and rose quickly to stand on the plank. “Give me the clothes!”
His shoulders relaxed a bit, but his tone was still angry. “You understand why I don’t want you to dress like a villain? You’re not a villain. We’re never villains.”
“We’re heroes!”
“Yes. Okay.” Now his shoulders relaxed more and his tone relaxed as well. “Okay. Let’s get us the clothes.”
And that ist the story of how Dragon Little and Dragon Father began to dress like pirates.
