#361: The Water Ninja

On a day with no adventure, Dragon Father flew Bonny’s Revenge to the a small island that was not there before.

“This is the only island,” he told his little four and a half year old Dragon Little, “that has waves in the entire ocean. Look!”

They stared at the waves as they stood on the beach. He had already made sure they were wearing their swimming trunks.

The waves were small, no bigger than half Dragon Little’s size. I have seen other waves before in other people’s dreams and so I knew that waves could be as high as the clouds. But these were small and harmless.

“Have I ever taken you to this place?”

She shook her head.

“Look. This is what I love to do with waves.”

He took a few steps into the ocean so that he was knee-high in the water.

As the next small wave came at him, he bent his knees and clung the fingers of each hand together so they seemed like knives.

The wave came closer. “Eeeee-aaaaaa!” he kicked the wave as it came.

The wave splashed past him and died at the shore at Dragon Little’s feet.

“See?” Dragon Father turned to her. “I’m a water ninja! Wanna try?”

“Yeeeeesssss!” she ran into the water.

“Okay. Let’s wait for the next wave together. Stand like this.”

She mimicked his stance.

“Here we go. Ready? Only when the wave is close.”

“Eeeee-aaaaaa!” they both screamed as each kicked the water in his and her own way.

“Again!” she shouted, full of joy.

“Another one!”

“Eeeeee-aaaaaa!” she kicked the water and then the lack of balance and the wave that splashed over her caused her to fall backwards.

Her head was underwater for a second, and she immediately stood up laughing. “Again!” she shouted.

And that ist how they spent their day, trying various ninja moves on the waves.

When Dragon Father disappeared many hours later, the island and the wind that created the waves did not. Dragon Little would return to this place many times when he was gone.
