‘The Squashbuckler Diaries’ are the daily tales of Joy Shelley’s Life in the Dream. The ‘Lost in Dreams’ books will tell the story of what happens to her at ages 6, 9, 12, 15, and so on. The diaries tell us what happens before, after, and between the books.

#46: Come Again? - Part 1

There are a thousand ways Dragon Little can drive Dragon Father insane. In the field, fighting villains, they are in tune. But sometimes, outside the danger, Dragon Little does absolutely nothing Dragon Father says.

There was one time, one of many, which began soon after 3-year-old Dragon Little ate her breakfast.

Dragon Father answered a distress call from a robot planet. Once Bonny’s Revenge was in orbit of the planet, Dragon Father looked over the railing.

“Where do you think we should land?” he asked.

Dragon Little peeked above the railing.

“Where do you think we should land?” she asked.

Dragon Father straightened. “Did you just repeat what I said?”

Dragon Little straightened. “Did you just repeat what I said?”

“I really… I really don’t like this game, Joy.”

“I really don’t like this game, Joy.”

“I mean it. I hated it when I was a kid.”

“I hated it when I was a kid,” she answered with a wily smile.

“Joy…”

“Joy!”

“Stop it!” he wagged his finger at her.

“Stop it!” she wagged her finger at his finger.

“It’s not funny!”

“It’s not funny!”

Dragon Father rested his head on the ship’s wooden railing. “This is going to be a loooong day!”

Dragon Little rested her head on the bars of the railing. “This is going to be a loooooong day!”
