#25: Pictures of Joy
Sometimes dreamers come to the Dream obsessed with something. I know this, for I did not come from Dragon Father’s dream. I have seen many dreamers.
One day, Dragon Father was obsessed with an object that appeared in his hand called “a digital camera”. I have never seen anything like it. It ist perhaps another thing imagined by Dragon Father.
The digital camera was able to take pictures of Dragon Little, and Dragon Father was obsessed with taking as many as possible. He took pictures of her helming Bonny’s Revenge, swinging on a rope from the mast, and so on.
Even during their adventure battling evil aliens, he would take pictures of the fight with one hand and fight the aliens with his other.
Dragon Little would stop every time and demand to see what the picture looked like.
“You can look, but you can’t touch. It might break!” Dragon Father had to say a few times.
Dragon Little enjoyed looking at herself. She had only seen her image before looking back from an ocean or a sea, or an occasional mirror in a villain’s lair. She would smile every time and try to touch the camera.
“Don’t touch!”
The battle was over. The good guys won. The bad guys were defeated, and their leader jailed in the belly of Bonny’s Revenge, in its Infinite Corridor.
“Dad, let me see the pictures again!”
“You know, Joy, I can get these pictures printed, and we can hang one on the wall of your cabin. Would you like that?”
She nodded. “Let me see them!”
“There. You can hold it. But be careful.” Dragon Father reached towards her with the camera. But then he vanished (waking up) and the camera vanished with him.
Dragon Little remained behind, as always. She seemed disappointed more than usual that some things vanish forever when her father disappears. There would be no pictures of her, no pictures to see.
She spent the next hour lying on the plank, looking at herself in the waves of the ocean.
