#147: Playing with the Sword, Part 3: Superdad
When Dragon Father entered Dragon Little’s cabin, she was lying curled on the bed, facing the wall, her back to him. And she was crying uncontrollably.
I am not… experienced enough with humans to understand why she would cry so badly after finding out that her father was okay. If she had cried before, when she had accidentally cut his eye, I would have understood. But now that she had seen he was okay? I do not understand the behavior.
Dragon Father perhaps understood better than me.
He sat down next to her, and began to caress her back.
With his softest voice, he said, “Joy… Joy… Everything is alright. I’m okay. See, I’m okay? See… just like when you kick me off a ship or when someone fires a laser gun at me… I can’t be killed. I can’t be harmed. Your father can’t be harmed.”
Dragon Little turned around and looked at him, her crying turning into soft breathing sobs. “You can’t be harmed?”
He shook his head. “I don’t think so. Look,” he pointed at his eye. It was as if nothing had happened. “You can’t harm me, Joy. You can’t hurt me… physically. Okay? I’m okay.”
Dragon Little stopped sobbing, as she touched his eye. “I’m sorry, Dad. I’m sorry!”
“It’s okay, Joy. Everything’s okay.”
Her breathing returned to normal. My sharp ears could hear her heart beats slow down to almost normal speed.
“So... “ within seconds, her eyes lit up and she was excited. “So I can’t be harmed either, right?”
Dragon Father gasped, and his heart sped up now.
It is too hard for me to think of my Dragon Little getting hurt thinking that she can’t be. I will tell you what happened next tomorrow, when I have gathered my strength.
